The Ekiti State All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders’ Forum on Friday appealed to former Gov. Segun Oni  to withdraw the suit challenging the eligibility of the governor-elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, for the July 14 governorship election.

The  News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that the APC elders came out with the position at the end of a marathon meeting held in Igbara Odo, in Ekiti South West Local Government Area of the state.

The meeting which was presided over by its Chairman, Chief George Akosile asked  Oni to withdraw the case against the governor-elect in the interest of the party.

According to a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting , the APC elders said the withdrawal of the case by Oni and his group will facilitate an out-of-court settlement.

In the communiqué signed by Akosile and the Forum’s Secretary, Chief Abiodun Ajayi, the APC elders resolved to send a five-man delegation to Oni with a letter appealing for the withdrawal of the case.

NAN reports that the Ekiti APC Elders’ Forum also resolved to send a memo to Fayemi to reconcile with the aggrieved Segun Oni’s group with a view to withdrawing the case from court and their inclusion in the forthcoming administration.

“We hereby wish to appeal to Chief Segun Oni and his group to withdraw the case from the Federal High Court, Abuja as to facilitate an out-of-court settlement in the interest of the APC Family in Ekiti State, in particular and Nigeria in general.”

NAN recalls that a group loyal to the former governor approached the court in Abuja, after the APC primary, urging it to nullify Fayemi’s candidacy on grounds that he (Fayemi) did not properly resign from his position as Minister of Mines and Steel Development 30 days before the APC primary, as dictated by the law.

Fayemi had won the APC governorship primary held on May 12 in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, by polling a total of 941 votes, beating  Segun Oni, who scored 481 votes to the second place and 31 other aspirants

The Oni group also dragged Fayemi to court on grounds that he was indicted by Ekiti State Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by Governor Ayo Fayose and handed a 10-year ban from holding public office.

Oni, as the Claimant/Applicant filed the suit before a Federal High Court, Abuja presided over by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba. The suit is marked FHC/ABJ/CS/663/18.

Joined as Defendants/Respondents in the case are Dr. Fayemi, APC and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Justice Dimgba  on 20th August issued an ex parte order for substituted service on the defendants.

NAN reports that Segun Oni’s supporters said the court case was triggered by alleged non-inclusiveness, ostracisation, marginalisation and demonstration of open hatred for them by Fayemi’s supporters.

I won't leave PDP if a loss presidential bid - Kwankwaso

A former governor of Kano State and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has said he would remain in the party and work for its success even if he lost the party's presidential primary.

Kwankwaso who obtained his expression of interest and nomination forms yesterday at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, also told newsman that if the party's leadership agreed on consensus, he would abide by the decision. 

He said he came second at the presidential primary election of the APC prior to the 2015 general elections but remained calm, adding that "I don't think anything will happen differently if a lost." 

He said, "Consensus is the best under normal circumstances but some aspirants may prefer to go for the primaries and get one vote. If our leaders come together and say this is a consensus candidate, I will abide by it."

He re-iterated that the party should micro-zone the ticked to the North West.

Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun who was accused of not participating in the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) but allegedly forged the certificate was one of those to welcome the German Chancellor.

Adeosun since the allegations of certificate forgery has not accepted nor refuted the claims but has left Nigerians in the dark with her silence.

Adeosun was photo-shopped into a NYSC uniform as she joined others,  to welcome Merkel yesterday by an unknown graphics artist.

2019: PDP dissolves Kano exco, constitutes caretaker committee

Crowd as Rabiu Kwankwaso declaring to run for President

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has dissolved the Kano State Executive Committee of the party.

This was announced by the spokesperson of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Friday.

Mr Ologbondiyan said the dissolution was reached at an NWC meeting held on Thursday.

“Consequently, a Caretaker Committee has been constituted to pilot the affairs of the state chapter of the party. Details of the Caretaker Committee would be made public in due course.

“All members of the party in Kano state and across the nation should be guided accordingly,” the spokesperson said.

No reason was given for the dissolution, but it is believed to to connected to the recent defection of ex-Kano governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to the party. He defected to the PDP from Nigeria’s ruling party, APC.

Mr Kwankwaso, who has huge following in the state, on Wednesday formally declared his intention to run for president of Nigeria.

Kano is the most populous state in Northern Nigeria and the state where President Muhammadu Buhari got his highest votes, about 1.9 million, in 2015.

SARS Operative Dismissed For Collecting N5,000 'Ransom'

Almost three months after the incident, PCRRU announced the dismissal of Omotosho, following its investigations.

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed an operative of the Federal Special Anti-Robery Squad (FSARS), Inspector Charles Omotosho, who extorted N5,000 from some road users in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

A Twitter user, Princess Ife, had on May 16 claimed that Omotosho had threatened to shoot at them, except they paid a 'ransom' of N5000.

She tweeted: “With my encounter today, it is safe to say SARS are armed robbers. Was going for a shoot in Ikorodu today and armed member of SARS pulled us over and made us pay for no reason. Threatening they were going to waste our lives. I made a transfer so that they can be traced."

The Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) of the Police Force, while responding to the allegation, promised to investigate the issue and make findings of the investigation public.

Almost three months after the incident, PCRRU announced the dismissal of Omotosho, following the police’s investigations.

Streets of Germany not filled with gold, Merkel tells Nigerian immigrants

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Friday declared that Nigerians migrating illegally to Europe, were on their own as he would never support any illegality or indiscipline.

President Buhari stated this while fielding questions from journalists during a joint press briefing between him and the visiting German Chancellor, Angela Merkel at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said he was against his country men and women finding their way illegally out of Nigeria in search of greener pastures, stressing that he would never support indiscipline and illegality.

According to him, “I am against any of my country men and women who illegally find their way to other countries other than Nigeria, l hope you know that ECOWAS protocol includes free movements of persons and goods and services.

“But for those going to Europe, this administration does not support that Nigerians should defy the Sahara desert and the Mediterranean because they feel there are greener pastures there. We do not support anything illegal and indiscipline. You must recall that about six weeks ago, we repatriated about 3,000 Nigerians who were stuck in Libya on their way to Europe and you must also have learnt and seen on the television, the number of Nigerians lost in the Mediterranean.

“So, for us, this administration is very clear that we do not support anything illegal and   anybody who feels that his country does not offer him what he should be offered and decides to defy the Mediterranean is doing so at his own risk. But if found stuck in Libya or anywhere, Nigeria will bring him back home and send him to his local government.”

Speaking through an interpreter during the joint press briefing after a closed door meeting with President Buhari, Merkel gave details of agricultural cooperation and other assistance coming to Nigeria.

She also said that Germany would provide educational assistance that would increase the number of Nigerian students studying in Germany. Merkel described Nigeria’s economy as strategically relevant in Africa, and that the partnership in food production, automobile manufacturing and energy would remain invaluable in cementing their relationship. She said both Nigeria and Germany were in agreement to arrive at what she described as a win-win situation and create legal means of migration.

She canvassed the need by Nigeria to improve on the state of its economy, pointing out that migrants should be made to realise the degree of danger inherent in illegal migration to Europe, adding that    the belief that the streets of Germany were paved with gold was not true after all.

She advised immigrants to learn to stay in their own countries.

“In preparing for this visit, we engaged the spirit of win-win situation. We were in agreement to create a win-win situation on both sides by creating legal means of migration as it is in other countries.

“There is the need to improve on situation at home and make young people to know how dangerous it is to leave their countries. Many stories told about Germany are not true.”

Merkel who said Germany had signed an agreement with Nigeria on agriculture, added    that this was done because Germany had not in the past focused so much on agriculture in Nigeria.

She also said Germany would engage Nigeria on how both countries can make renewable energy more efficient in the country adding that both countries would cooperate with each other on how agriculture could be developed and projects agreed  upon implemented.

Disclosing that there are 1,200 Nigerians currently studying in Germany, Merkel said the German government was working to increase the number.

Both countries signed three memoranda of understanding on agriculture, commerce and automobiles.

On his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama disclosed that Nigeria and Germany signed three Memoranda of Understanding, MoU, which includes the production of Volkswagen in Nigeria. Onyema said, “three MoUs were signed in Agriculture especially technologies in agricultural sector. One in building automative capacity to produce Volkswagon in the country and another to fund and finance risk taken in various business areas, this is running into billions of dollars investment.”
