UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin, has insisted that Luka Modric emerged as the Best Player of the Year, as a result of a democratic vote.
The Real Madrid midfielder won the prize on Thursday, ahead of his former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah.
“For me, it’s very important to know one thing.
“Fifty-five journalists from 55 national associations voted and 80 coaches from [last season’s] Europa League and Champions League voted.
“It’s a vote … it’s a vote and they decided,” Ceferin said according to ESPN.
The numbers released by UEFA after the event, shows that Modric got 313 points, while Ronaldo garnered 223 points.
Salah finished in third place with 134 points.
