Bank marketer arrested on his wedding day in Lagos... you won't believe why

The Nation reports that a marketing officer with Addosser Microfinance Bank Plc, Aliu Mustapha, who allegedly absconded with a customer’s N1 million, was on Thursday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

According to the police, Mustapha, 37, of No. 8, Oremeji Street, Lagos, was arrested during his wedding last Saturday in Lagos.

He was arraigned on a one count charge of stealing before Magistrate Y.O. Aro-Lambo.

Prosecuting police officer, Sgt. Samuel Mishozunnu, alleged that Mustapha committed the offence between May and June 2017, while he was a staff of Addosser Microfinance Bank Plc located at No. 32, Lewis Street, Lagos Island.

The court heard that the defendant collected the N1million in two tranches of N840,000 and N160,000 from the bank’s customer but refused to remit it to the bank and afterwards absconded.

Mishozunnu said: “The defendant was arrested last Saturday, August 11, 2018, at his wedding, after the police got information that he was getting married.

“The police waited for him to exchange his marriage vows following which he was apprehended.”

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 287(7) of the Criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.

Mustapha pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The accused counsel, Mr. M.A. Rufai, applied for his bail “in the most liberal terms.”

Magistrate Aro-Lambo upheld his prayer and granted Mustapha bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned till September 11 for trial.
