Her claimed bid for the presidency might have in spectacular fashion last November, but former first lady Grace Mugabe is certainly not letting that setback collapse her spirits; not if a recent video from her Blue Roof Harare mansion is anything to go by.
Grace has hardly been seen in public since husband Robert Mugabe was toppled by the military last year after ruling Zimbabwe with an iron fist for 37 years.
During a surprise press conference on the eve of the July 30 elections, Grace was on hand to cajole her aged husband, telling him to‘say it again’after the 94-year-old made clear he would not vote for Zanu PF and successor Emmerson Mnangagwa and indicated that opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa was the only viable option.
Many might have expected that the opposition's failure to dislodge the ruling Zanu PF party would have left the Mugabe’s downcast, but a video from an event at the family's private Harare home suggests otherwise.
The video, said to be from a week ago, shows cheery Grace serenading guests at what appears to be a party with a popular song backed by a live band.
It remains unclear what the occasion was, but a couple can be seen dancing while others chat at tables covered with silver cutlery, glasses and bottles of wine and champagne.
