Impeachment: Saraki luring senators with N100m each

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, of luring the party’s senators with N100 million each to forestall his impeachment.

It also described the leadership style of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, as treasonable for failing to reconvene the Senate as requested by the Presidency.

The party alleged that it had discovered a plot by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators to attack APC senators.

The party, which stated this in a statement issued in Abuja yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yekini Nabena, however, said that the party would not spend any money to have the Senate president impeached.

Already, Nabesa said APC was already discussing with some PDP senators to ensure Saraki’s impeachment scales through.

APC said: “The Senate president, through proxies, has made several failed attempts to buy over APC senators with N100 million each.

“As a party, we don’t believe in inducing lawmakers to achieve our legitimate goal of removing Saraki as Senate president. We will get the support of some PDP Senators to get the required 2/3 vote and impeach Saraki. We are already talking to some of PDP senators who believe and support the direction of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to achieve our legitimate goal.”

The ruling party also decried Saraki and Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogora, for not reconvening the National Assembly to consider the National Assembly budget.

Elaborating on the alleged planned attack of APC senators by PDP, Nabena said: “During Sunday’s meeting, PDP senators planned several types of attack, one of which is to lure some of them (APC senators) out at night in the guise of inviting senators to a political settlement meeting and thereafter instigate a violent confrontation during the meeting and unleash standby PDP thugs on APC senators.”

The PDP, however, denied the planned attack.

Its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the ruling party has come to its wits end in the plot to illegally impeach Saraki and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.

It described as hallucinating for APC to link it with any attempt to attack anybody, including senators, noting that Nigerians were aware that, if anything, it is the APC that has been involved in sponsoring violence and attacks in the residences of the presiding officers of the Senate as well as in the National Assembly.
