Man United vs Bayern Munich 1999 Treble Reunion Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester Date: Sunday, May 26, 2019 Kick-off: 3pm BST, today

Manchester United fans are in for a real treat today as the Legends of their 1999 Treble-winning season return for a reunion match against Bayern Munich.

A host of former United stars will head back to Old Trafford, which is 20 years to the day since the Red Devils' dramatic Champions League triumph over Bayern in Barcelona.

Mario Basler's sixth-minute free-kick looked set to end United's hopes of adding the Champions League trophy to their domestic double of the Premier League and FA Cup.

However, United super-subs Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer struck a quickfire brace in injury time to complete one of the most sensational comebacks in European Cup history.

The likes of David Beckham, Peter Schmeichel, Gary Neville, Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke will all play in today's friendly, with Solskjaer and Teddy Sheringham also included.

Solskjaer's presence will have a slightly surreal edge, given that the Norwegian will be coached at the Theatre of Dreams despite currently holding the title of the club's permanent manager.

While few managers would make way for another in their own dugout, Solskjaer has no problem with United's choice as Sir Alex Fergusonwill be back in the dugout - a return which is sure to cause a few tears among the United faithful given the legendary coach's recovery from serious health problems last year.

Sir Alex Ferguson's 'verdict' on Man Utd's pursuit of Daniel James transfer

Daniel James is reportedly on the cusp of a £15million transfer from Swansea to Man Utd

Sir Alex Ferguson has given Manchester United a thumbs up over the potential signing of Daniel James, according to reports.

The Red Devils are said to be closing in on a £15million transfer for the highly rated Swansea winger, having won the race for his signature ahead of Leeds, Everton andNewcastle .

And legendary manager Ferguson is happy with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer first bit of business as United chief.

“Sir Alex is a massive admirer of Dan James and convinced he is destined for big things," a source told Football Insider.

“He would never say that publicly and put too much pressure on him but he has been impressed by the kid.

Daniel James is on the cusp of a huge transfer to Man Utd

“He doesn’t get too involved in our recruitment but he’s certainly excited by the signing of Dan James.”

Wales legend John Hartson, 44, says that he has not doubt James would be a success with United.

He said: “In recent years, Swansea have sold a complete team.

“Influential players like Lukasz Fabianski, Federico Fernandez, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wilfried Bony have all gone.

“If they are offered in excess of £20million for Daniel, then it’s difficult to turn down.

Sir Alex Ferguson has given the transfer a thumbs up

“It would also be hard to deny the boy the opportunity of playing for Manchester United .

“He was very close to going to Leeds on the final day of the January transfer window for £10m.

“But I believe Swansea pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute because they thought, at that price, it was a steal.

“The transfer was almost over the line. I believe his parents were at Elland Road with the lad, but Swansea then told Leeds the deal was off.

“It wasn’t very nice for Daniel because he had probably pinned his hopes on joining Leeds, who then looked like they were on their way to the Premier League."

Europa League concern for Chelsea as Kante suffers injury set-back

The France international had been on the road to recovery, but the latest knock means he remains a doubt for the final against the Gunners

Chelsea are sweating over the fitness of N'Golo Kante ahead of the Europa Leaguefinal after the midfielder suffered a knock in training on Saturday.

The Blues star had almost completely recovered from the calf strain he sustained against Watford in the Premier League at the beginning of May, but he has now encountered another set-back in his road to recovery.

He had been taking part in preparations ahead of the Europa League decider against Arsenal when he suffered a knock to his knee and his involvement in the game remains doubtful as a result.

Maurizio Sarri had indicated last week that he was optimistic the France international could play a part in the game against the Gunners, so the injury comes as a blow and he will now have to consider alternative arrangements.

Indeed, Kante is not the only concern for Sarri in the build up to the all-Premier League encounter in Baku, with Jorginho also sustaining a knock in last week's open training session.

The Chelsea boss is already without both Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek who both suffered ruptured Achilles tendon injuries, with the latter having suffered his set-back in a post season friendly match against New EnglandRevolution.

Antonio Rudiger, meanwhile, is out with a knee injury that needed surgery.

There is some good news, however, as Ethan Ampadu has returned from a back injury and the Wales international will likely make the bench for the final.

Chelsea's Europa League clash against Arsenal is set to be played at Baku's Olympic Stadium on Wednesday, May 29.

Sarri has already secured Champions League football for the Blues by guiding the club to a third-place finish in the Premier League, but he will be eager to land silverware as speculation swirls around his future.

"I think we had a good season, with a lot of problems of course," the former Napoliboss told reporters.

"We lost two, three games very badly, but we finished third, we got to the League Cup final, a very difficult competition, and now we have the opportunity to play the Europa League final."

The Italian coach added: "I'm very happy to stay in the Premier League and Chelsea is one of the most important clubs in the Premier League."

Breaking: EFCC Goes After Tinubu Over Bullion Vans During 2019 Election

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday vowed to investigate the National leader of the All Progressives Congress Bola Tinubu over the bullion vans that drove into his home in February

Although the EFCC has declined comments about whether it had launched an investigation to find out how former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu, came about the bullion vans that drove into his home in February.

Nigerians have mounted pressure on the anti-graft office to open money laundering probe against Mr Tinubu, after the ruling party chieftain was seen on February 22 receiving at least two armoured vehicles believed to be bearing cash.
The development raised controversies because it came a day to the presidential election on February 23.

Mr Tinubu is a senior leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and a strong ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, who was seeking reelection at the time.

Critics said there was no doubt the vehicles were conveying cash to bribe voters with, especially since such trucks are used in Nigeria almost exclusively to convey cash by banks, government institutions and cash-in-transit firms.

Latest N-Power News Update For Today May 26th, 2019

Afolabi Imoukhuede, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation (N-Power Scheme) Photo: LASG

Good day and welcome to the roundup of the latest N-Power news update for today, Sunday, May 26th, 2019 on Concise News.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation and Youth Empowerment, Afolabi Imoukhuede has revealed how the popular Federal Government of Nigeria scheme, N-Power was birthed, Concise News reports.

Afolabi was speaking on Thursday in Abuja at the National Social Investment Office’s (NSIO) world press conference on the activities of the Social Investment Programmes (SIP) in the last three years.

The presidential aide while highlighting the efforts made by the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to address the problem of unemployment in Nigeria, explains that it is in the government’s bid to fulfil their 2015 electoral promise on job creation to Nigerian youths that the N-Power scheme sprung.

“And secondly was also the reason why the job creation unit was carried out in the presidency, in the office of the vice president.

“And then, right after that, as we began to unravel the implementation of the promise, which has now become the National Social Investment programme, it was also important and imperative that the job creation…How do we speak to the needs of the youth, within the context of our social investment, and that’s why we then have what is now known as the N-Power programme. Just like the Special Adviser (Mrs Maryam Uwais) has alluded to. That component speaks primarily to the job creation component of our Nigerian youths between the ages of 18 and 35,” Afolabi says.

Lionel Messi broke another record in the Copa del Rey final

Messi keeps breaking records with sheer brilliance and passion.

Lionel Messi is like red wine. He seems to be getting better with age. Last night he broke the record of scoring in the most number of Copa del Rey finals even though Barcelona lost the match.

The La Liga 2018-19 champions have a last leg of the season to forget. The 4-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semis this month has demoralised the team completely. The team stumbled to a 1-2 loss against Valencia last night to add salt to the wounds of Lionel Messi and his colleagues.

However, for the Argentine magician, it has been records galore this week.

He has already equalled the record of legendary Telmo Zarra of being the top scorer in La Liga in six different seasons. If everything goes right, he'll be creating a new record next season.

On a personal note, he has had a brilliant season having scored 51 goals and assisted 22 more for Barcelona making the undisputed best attacker in the planet. He won the Creu de Sant Jordi awards, one of the highest civilian awards in Catalonia last week. He won the 6th Golden Boot which is another record and the third time in a row.

Lionel Messi has now scored in 6 finals of the Copa del Rey, the Spanish domestic cup competition.

He has now scored 51 goals in the prestigious cup competition, 2 ahead of Ferenc Puskas and 30 behind legendary Telmo Zarra who sits at the top of charts with 81 goals. He's sure to move further up the charts with Guillermo Gorrostiza, Quini and Edmundo Suarez in touching distance from his tally.

The Argentine will now be heading to Brazil and will be leading Argentina in the Copa America 2019. Barcelona will now have to introspect in the summer and work accordingly to come back stronger next season.

He said that both being governors from the progressive fold was not only a positive sign for the party, but also a good omen for democracy in Nigeria.

“Bagudu has also proven his mettle as a man of honour, a progressive to the core.

“Without a doubt, his emergence as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum will unite the party to be stronger, all inclusive, deepen the democratic institutions and provide the necessary support that Mr President requires as he continues to steer Nigeria to greater heights,” he said.

Sir Alex Ferguson believes Man Utd made a mistake with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Sir Alex Ferguson wanted Manchester United to move for Mauricio Pochettino (Getty Images)

Sir Alex Ferguson believes Manchester United should have appointed Tottenhammanager Mauricio Pochettino ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to reports.

Following the decision to sack Jose Mourinho in December, United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward opted to give Solskjaer a contract until the end of the campaign to get the club back on track.

But Solskjaer unexpectedly hit the ground running at Old Trafford by winning his first eight games, while he also guided United to a remarkable comeback victory against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

But since that 3-1 victory in Paris on March 6, United won just two matches and lost eight of their remaining 12 games in all competitions.

Solskjaer, however, was given a three-year contract at the end of March and is now tasked with a major rebuild of his United squad, who face the prospect of Europa League football next season.

According to the Mail on Sunday, Ferguson feels that United should have made an attempt to lure Pochettino away from Tottenham before Solskjaer was given a permanent contract.

Ferguson privately met with Pochettino for lunch in 2016 and is understood to be a huge admirer of the 47-year-old, who has guided Spurs to the Champions League final this season.

The report also claims that Ferguson is ‘disappointed’ that he has been marginalised by Woodward and is forced to keep up to date with the team’s plans via Solskjaer’s assistant Mike Phelan, who worked alongside the Scot at Old Trafford.

Ferguson is said to feel ‘isolated’ with the current situation at United, while Solskjaer reportedly does not turn to his former manager for any advice about the team.

A source close to Ferguson told the Mail on Sunday: ‘Sir Alex feels conflicted.

‘He can see the irony that he still spends time thinking about United when he’s retired.

‘But he loves the club and does feel a bit hurt that his opinion is never sought.’

“Your principal task is to cooperate with the Executive so that together we can fashion policies that will lift our people out of poverty and out of illiteracy. I appeal to the Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members to subordinate all personal interests and ambitions to the imperative of working for the common good of our people.”

He assured the leaders that his doors remained open “to all of you who have genuine concerns or advice to improve the quality of governance and service delivery to our people.”

Senate President Saraki assured the president that the National Assembly would maintain focus on national interest at all times.

The event was attended by the Deputy Senate President, the Deputy Speaker, the majority and minority leaders, the majority and minority whips and their deputies.
