Election: US Sends Clinton To Meet Buhari, Atiku ⋆

As part of efforts to ensure the forthcoming general election in Nigeria is peaceful, the United States Government has dispatched former President Bill Clinton to Nigeria to meet the two leading candidates, President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, confirmed Clinton’s visit, which is expected to occur on the eve of the presidential election.

Reacting to enquiries on the visit, he said, “We are aware. All what we want is credible, fair and acceptable elections. We also don’t want interference from anyone concerning the workings of INEC and the security agents.”

Clinton is expected to meet Buhari and Atiku on February 15, a day to the presidential election, and is expected back in his country immediately after the visit.

According to findings, the meeting was scheduled for February 15 to enable both candidates vote in their polling units on election day.

While Buhari is expected to vote in his hometown Daura, Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State, Atiku is expected to cast his vote in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Recall that the US and UK governments vowed that there would be “consequences”for any individual that attempts to perpetrate violence during the course of the 2019 polls.
