Zinedine Zidane eyes Patrice Evra for staff as Jose Mourinho decision looms

MANCHESTER UNITED are getting ready to appoint Zinedine Zidane in place of Jose Mourinho.

And Patrice Evra is set to be part of the Frenchman’s backroom staff.

That’s according to RMC Sport who claim Mourinho’s days at Old Trafford are now numbered.

Zidane is the overwhelming favourite to replace the Special One after he left Real Madrid at the end of last season.

United suffered another dismal defeat at the weekend, losing 3-1 to West Ham at the London Stadium.

And that has intensified the pressure on Mourinho as the Red Devils now trail leaders Manchester City by nine points.

During the match Evra was pictured sitting alongside Ed Woodward - the man who will make the decision on the Portuguese.

As well as poor results, Mourinho has had a public bust-up with Paul Pogba.

Last week Starsport revealed the World Cup winner had been told he will never captain the club again.

And just a day after the two were involved in a frosty training ground exchange.

The reports claim Zidane is very interested in the role just four months after leaving Real Madrid.

The France legend led Los Blancos to three straight Champions League trophies during his time at the Bernabeu.

But former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has warned Zidane will have a lot to do at Old Trafford.

He told talkSPORT: “It’s a lot of work for whoever comes.

“Zidane? He would want to pick a big team with big players, at Real Madrid he had a team of Galacticos – but it’s a different set up at Manchester United.

“He would have a lot of coaching to do, more than just management.”

United return to action tomorrow night when they welcome Valencia to Old Trafford in the Champions League.

After that the Red Devils take on Newcastle at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday.
