How Manchester United could line up under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer next season with Ivan Perisic, Kalidou Koulibaly and Philippe Coutinho

The Red Devils legend is in the running to take over full time and the club are likely to splash the cash in 2019

If the rumours are to be believed, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing all the right things to convince the Manchester United hierarchy to give him the role full time.

Bursting with infectious optimism and a desire to uphold traditions, the ‘Baby Faced Assassin’ has forced his way into the reckoning to assume the manager’s role on a full-time basis.

Solskjaer could be in the Old Trafford hot seat for a while yet

After filling the void left by the sacking of Jose Mourinho in a caretaker capacity, Solskjaer has won four Premier League games as well as securing safe passage to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

With Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford firing on all cylinders, the future is certainly looking much brighter at Old Trafford.

However, the need to catch up with fierce rivals Manchester City and Liverpool is a priority and the gulf in class between the club cannot be allowed to widen.

Naturally, rumours of spending have begun to gather momentum and the gossip on the cobbles of Manchester suggest United will once again spend big.

Regardless of who their manager is next season, if the club can pull off even one or two of the signings they have been linked with, then murmurs of the Premier League returning after seven years will surely begin to become reality.

Check out the Red Devils’ incredible potential starting XI for next season.

Goalkeeper – David de Gea

Making De Gea captain of this new look United would be a bold move

It is almost criminal the Spaniard has won just five trophies since 2013.

Easily one of the best shot-stoppers in the world, De Gea will be looking to improve his haul or move onto pastures new in the summer.

If Solskjaer is in charge, then giving the captain’s armband on a full-time basis may well be the answer to keeping him. The Norwegian won trophies galore under Peter Schmeichel and could entrust the 28-year-old to do the same.

Back four

Manolas’ aggressive style would suit the premier League perfectly

For so long a problem area for the Red Devils, the latest transfer rumours are extremely positive.

Roma defender Kostas Manolas has a£32million release clause which United are reportedly ready to trigger and a move for Kalidou Koulibaly could well be completed this month.

Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot are young, attack-minded and capable of nailing down the full-back roles for many years at Old Trafford.

Midfield

Herrera and Coutinho in midfield is the Beauty and the Beast sequel United fans did not know they needed

For the past four LaLiga games,Philippe Coutinho has inexplicably sat on the Barcelona bench and (in a stunning turn of events) the odds on a move to old Trafford have tumbled.

Alongside the rejuvenated Paul Pogba, United could keep the ball for fun in the middle of the park before flicking a switch and slicing teams wide open.

Once a scapegoat for everything wrong under Mourinho, Ander Herrera’s return to form means a new contract could well be on the table for the combative Spaniard.

Attack

Rashford and Martial are still yet to hit the peak years of their careers

Croatia and Inter superstar Ivan Perisic could finally be on his way to Old Trafford. According to Tuttosport, the Serie A giants are ready to cash in on the winger to fund a move for Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric.

As mentioned previously, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford look like new signings under Solskjaer.

The best thing about starting them both in a 4-3-3 formation is both forwards are comfortable enough to swap and drift into inside left or central positions.

Alongside the equally versatile and dangerous Perisic, United could have one of the most potent attacking line ups in the Premier League next season.
