A group known as the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) has told Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate not to seek redress from the court over President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in last Saturday’s presidential election.
Speaking with journalists in Ado Ekiti yesterday, CNPP Chairman of the Ekiti State chapter, Deacon Olu Akomolafe, urged Atiku to put Nigeria above primordial sentiment at this crucial time by respecting the verdict of the citizens, who gave their votes to support President Buhari’s reelection. He insisted that Atiku resorting to court action in spite of the credibility of the poll as adjudged by local and international observers would be tantamount to pursuing personal agenda and taking actions that could immerse the country into unprecedented crisis.
Akomolafe said, “No patriotic Nigerian with glowing interest in the country’s unity would take legal action against the verdict of the masses. We could remember vividly that former Vice President Atiku did say on the day he won the PDP presidential primary in Port Harcourt , Rivers State, that he was contesting to make Nigeria better and not for personal aggrandisement,” he said
Meanwhile the Minister of Finance, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his re-election, describing it as an ‘impressive success’.She said this in a congratulatory message addressed to Buhari.Zainab said Nigerians voted Buhari because they trust and believe in his ability to lead the country to sustainable growth and development.
The congratulatory message contained in a statement issued by Mr Paul Abechi, her Special Adviser on Media and Communications on Friday in Abuja, said Buhari’s victory shows his acceptability across the length and breadth of the country. She added that the victory was a testimony that the solid foundation laid in the last three and half years was appreciated by majority of Nigerians.“I am pleased to congratulate you and the entire campaign team on this impressive success.Your victory with acceptability across the length and breadth of our country fills me with immense joy.By this vote, Nigerians trust and believe in your ability to lead the country to sustainable growth and development,” NAN quoted her as saying.Ahmed also said that the victory would inspire the president to do more to lead Nigeria on the path of sustainable prosperity.
