Controversy as Anthony Joshua retains world heavyweight titles

Controversy as Anthony Joshua retains world heavyweight titles

Anthony Joshua maintained his 100 per cent knockout ratio by stopping a bloodied Carlos Takam in the tenth round on Saturday.

The English boxer retained his International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association world heavyweight titles with a devastating display of his punching power to finish Cameroon ' s France - based challenger at the Principality Stadium .

Takam became Joshua ' s 20 th consecutive knockout victim in a fourth defence of his IBF belt and first of his WBA title , but the challenger stubbornly resisted the champion after being cut by the right eye in the fourth round .

" It was a good fight until the ref stopped it . I have the upmost respect for Takam , " said Joshua , who injured his nose from a headbutt in the second round .
" Imagine if it ' s broke and I couldn 't breath and he started catching up in the middle rounds ? It would have been a disaster , so I kept my cool . You have to control these situations because , if I showed any signs of weakness , the ref could have jumped in . "
Takam was also given a count in the fourth round before being finished off by a barrage of unanswered punches which prompted the referee Phil Edwards to stop it .

Takam complained it was a premature stoppage , which was jeered by Joshua ' s fans , and the challenger was given warm applause afterwards.

" I don ' t think they should have stopped it , " said Takam .
" I want the rematch if Anthony gives me it . "

Takam , 36 , had only accepted his first world title shot at less than two weeks ’ notice and fought for most of the fight with a gruesome cut which obscured his vision.

For Takam , it was a fourth career defeat after a points loss to Parker last year and knockout loss to Russia ’ s Alexander Povetkin in 2014 .

Takam , who boxed for Cameroon at the 2004 Olympics before relocating to Paris a year later , was drafted in as a late replacement opponent at 12 days ’ notice after Bulgaria ’ s Kubrat Pulev injured a shoulder .

Joshua made an especially cautious start , not landing any power punches in the opening round , as he took time to assess Takam , who fought out of a crouch and burst forward with punches .

Joshua landed a good left - right combination in the second round , but did not have as much success in the third .
In the fourth, Takam suffered a nasty cut by the right eye from a big right from Joshua which caused him problems instantly with his vision due to the blood.

Shook by a right
When the fight continued , Takam was caught by a left that sent him spinning and was given a count as his glove was ruled to have touched down .

Takam bravely fought back in the fifth but Joshua teed off on him in the sixth, landing heavy , unanswered blows .
Takam had some of his best moments of the fight in the seventh round as he repeatedly caught Joshua .

Joshua tried to regain momentum in the eighth with two left hands that shook Takam , who was inspected by the ringside doctor at the start of the ninth round .
Takam was allowed to fight on but in the tenth he was shook by a right to the head and as Joshua unloaded more punches that landed flush, referee Phil Edwards stopped the fight.

On the undercard , Dillian Whyte unanimously out - pointed Finland’ s Robert Helenius by scores of 119 - 109 twice and 118- 110 to move into contention for a shot at the WBC world heavyweight title.

Ireland’ s Katie Taylor won a world title in her seventh professional fight after unanimously out - pointing Anahi Sanchez for the vacant WBA lightweight belt by three scores of 99 - 90 .

England ’ s Kal Yafai also unanimously out -pointed Japan ’ s Sho Ishida in a second defence of his WBA world super - flyweight title, winning by scores of 118- 110, 116- 112 and 116- 112 .

Lagos Ranked 8th Most Dangerous Megacity For Women

Lagos Ranked 8th Most Dangerous Megacity For Women

Lagos is the eighth most dangerous megacity for women to live in, according to a Thompson Reuters survey. Cairo, capital of Egypt, was rated the world’s most dangerous megacity for women while London, the best.

The poll which sought the opinion from some 380 experts in women’s issues, was conducted in 19 of the world’s biggest megacities (as ranked by the United Nations) between June and July 2017.

The cities were ranked based on four major factors – sexual violence, access to healthcare, cultural practices and economic opportunities. Karachi in Pakistan followed Cairo, and next in line was Kinshasa in Democratic Republic of the Congo, then the Indian capital New Delhi.

Women’s rights campaigners in Cairo said traditions dating back centuries made it a tough city, with discrimination rife. Delhi and Sao Paulo emerged as the worst cities when respondents were asked if women could live there without the risk of sexual violence, including rape, attacks or harassment.

THESE TIPS WILL HELP YOU SURVIVE A RECESSION IN NIGERIA

THESE TIPS WILL HELP YOU SURVIVE A RECESSION IN NIGERIA

Recent reports suggest that Nigeria may be heading towards a recession. On Friday, the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics revealed that in its first quarter, the country’s economy shrank by 0.4 percent. Due to the drop in the manufacturing sector and other economic indicators, experts have warned that “the country is headed towards a full blown crisis.”

While things may seem rather gloomy, there is always an alternative to panic. If the Nigerian economy eventually falls into a recession, here are some tips to get you prepared:

Pay your debts now
Trying to pay off a debt could be a burden but it’s even worse if one waits till the recession hits. Debt repayment becomes extra stressful and can bring a lot of financial strain. During a recession, there is an increase in interest rate and banks will have constricted credit limits.

So, in order to avoid the stress, make an outline of your payment obligations and make a plan to pay up your debts as quickly as possible.

Identify your monthly expenses
In a recession, there’s usually tight cash flow. People tend to watch their spending and avoid taking risks with money.

Categorise and track your monthly expenditures by outlining the amount of money you spend on eating out, recharge cards, extra-curricular activities and luxury items. If you spend a large chunk of money on eating out, maybe consider making your meals at home. Prepare to stick to basic and essential items only during this period.

Plan a budget and save
Now is the time to have a strict saving and budgeting routine. Although there is the universal 50/20/30 rule, which means you should allocate 50 percent of your income for essentials (like housing and food), 20 percent as savings and the remaining 30 percent goes into your life style choices like the cable TV or nights out.

However, when preparing for a recession, one has to be frugal. Therefore, a more appropriate approach to surviving an economic downturn would be to divide your monthly income using the 50/30/20 rule, where you save 30 percent of your income. That way you can have enough to fall back on in the case of an emergency.

Boost your income
Aside from your regular 8-to-5, it is time to take on a part-time jobs in order to boost your income. You can decide to monetise your hobby (some of which may be tax-free) by working harder on it during your down time or on weekends, that way, you can earn some extra cash.

Live within your means
It is time to cut out wastage and extras. Avoid purchasing what you don’t need. Scour shops and supermarket for sales, save on electricity usage. Try to cut costs in every possible way.
These should help you help you during the rainy days.

Food For Thought

Those heights by great men, won and kept, were not achieved by sudden flight. But they while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night."

Our reaping depends greatly on our sowing.

Here are the Top Mistakes you made that resulted in your US Visa Denial

Here are the Top Mistakes you made that resulted in your US Visa Denial

Year in year out, a good number of people apply to the US embassy for visa to legally gain entry into the country. But unfortunately, majority of these people are rejected, leaving them sad and confused.

While everyone can’t be granted a US visa for obvious reasons, a lot of these rejections are due to little mistakes made by applicants in the application process. Here are top mistakes for US visa denial.
Inadequate preparation
Most US visa applicants are so excited about the idea of travelling to the US that they neglect putting in the work to actually get the visa. It’s okay for you to be over the moon, but how much do you know about the visa application and interview?
Outsourcing the Visa application to a third party isn’t an excuse to not get acquainted with the process. Thankfully, you have every information you need at your finger tip with the internet. Read up as much as you can.
Applying for the wrong Visa
Applying for the wrong visa is the beginning of your rejection. Eligibility requirements for the various available visas differ. By-passing one that you are eligible for and applying for one you aren’t eligible for, will be futile.
Carefully read about the various visas and their eligibility requirements. Be very sure that you meet the requirements of the one you are applying for. Doing this will automatically increase your chances of approval.
Incorrect or insufficient information
Every item on the forms to be filled is there because it’s important to the application process. Leaving out some questions and answering only the ones that are convenient for you isn’t going to do you any good. More so, providing false information is just as bad.
All information provided will be verified, and if as little as one of them is found to be false, your application will be thrown into the trash.
Over confidence
Confidence is no doubt a good thing. But when it’s over the top, it could affect you negatively. The visa interviewer is a human being just like you. Giving vibes of arrogance will rub him or her the wrong way, and that’ll affect their verdict of your application.
Just keep it simple and respectful. Answer only questions you are asked. Don’t assume that the interviewer forgot to ask certain questions and volunteer to provide unnecessary answers.
Ineffective communication
A lot of things could go wrong in the interview process if you don’t understand certain questions you are asked and then proceed to give wrong answers.
The accent of the interview can be a little distracting too. Pay close attention to him or her. If you didn’t hear a question clearly, politely ask them to repeat it. Pause for a second or two to articulate your thoughts before responding.
The United States of America is a land of opportunities, it’s no surprise that everyone wants to go have a share of those opportunities. There’s nothing wrong with wanting a better life. Just be prepared enough to nail it.

Omotunde Adebowale David: "97% Of Nigerian Songs Of Nowadays Have No Meaning"

In her recent speech with Hip TV, the super star OAP & Actress "Lolo1" stated that most songs being publicized right now are just about having fun.

She expressed disappointment at the present state of affairs being a far cry from what was obtainable in the past.

“I’m not sure if they’re passing any message because if you are looking at the content of music, what will you say you’re buying? It’s not that everybody talks crap but 97% of it has no meaning. ‘Bangdadadang’, what does that mean? ‘Skibidipapap’, doesn’t have any meaning, ‘Wo!’, it’s just play, we are just having [fun]

“It’s not like the music of Obey, Barrister, Sunny Ade, they had depth, they had what they wanted to pass, even though we have people here in this current generation that are doing conscious music, Fela was a great advocate, he did a lot of social impact in music.. but in this generation, i’m not sure” She said.

Tosin Saraki Weds Adeniyi Olatunde Olukoya On October 28

On Saturday, October 28, 2017, Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his wife, Toyin, will marry off their daughter, Oluwatosin to her fiancé, Adeniyi Olatunde Olukoya, the son of Omooba Tokunbo Olusanya in Lagos.

25-years old Tosin is the first of the four children of Bukola and Toyin.

Prison Lords: Even As Kirikiri Inmates, They Coordinate Robberies In Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos special security outfit, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), have cracked an armed robbery syndicate, which allegedly operates from Kirikiri prison. The leaders of the syndicate, Odudu Uttah, Sunday and Tosin who are awaiting trial were found with list of targets in Lagos who their members had attacked and still planning to attack.

Their gang members who were arrested include Nsima Uttah, the younger brother of Odudu Uttah; Abayomi James, Omokaro Efe, Augustine Uchenna, Chukwuma Onyemara, Uzuazomaro Joseph, Melvin Umeh, Ahmed Waheed and Odili Benedict. On their arrest, a police source told Saturday Sun that victims alerted operatives of RRS about the activities of some hoodlums in Ayobo area in Lagos state.

“On August 25, we got reports from victims that their houses were broken into by suspected armed robbers. The suspects raided their houses and left with valuables including cars. Through intelligence gathering, we were able to trace some of the suspects and discovered that the cars were already in Anambra State.

“The Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, thereafter instructed that our men should trace and recover the cars. A tracking team was sent to Anambra and they were able to recover the cars from the buyers.

“Nine suspects who include three buyers were arrested. In the course of investigation, it was discovered that most of the crimes committed were coordinated from Kirikiri prison. As such, we were able to intercept their plan to raid more homes. The police authority has written to Nigerian Prisons to facilitate the process of bringing out the inmates for further investigation”, a police source disclosed.

Victims recount

Mr. Dada who was one of their victims told the police that the robbers gained access into his house at about 2am on August 25, 2017. “They were the ones who woke me up as I did not hear while they were breaking in. They were armed and started beating me up. They requested for money and I told them I don’t have any. They searched the whole house and collected all our phones, cloths, jewelries, laptops, Television sets and other valuables. They packed them in my car and waited till 5am before they left.”

Another victim simply identified as Bamidele told the police that the armed robbers invaded his house on September 9, 2017. “They broke my burglary proof and entered the house around 1.45am. Before I could pick my phone to make a call, they have overpowered and tied me up. They took all the valuables within reach and drove off with my Toyota Camry car. ”

Suspects confess

At the police station, the suspects admitted to have participated in several robberies especially in Ayobo area. They alleged that their leaders who are inmates in prison, awaiting trial, gave the addresses of their victims to them.

One of the suspects, Nsima 33, told the police that his journey into the criminal world dates back to 2013 after observing the lifestyle of his elder brother, Odudu. “I used to be a bus driver but I realized that my brother was making so much money and yet no one knows what he does for a living. All I knew back then was that he travels a lot, so I assumed he could be a fraudster.

It was when the police arrested him that I knew what exactly he was doing. One of his friends, Shokunbi who is also an armed robber asked me to raise money and help my brother. I told him that I don’t make much money so he taught me how to break shops.

“The little money we raised was sent to my brother who is in prison. When I saw him, he told me to promise that I will continue my driving job.

The temptation was too much, so I continued breaking shops at Ajegunle and snatching bags with the guidance of Shokunbi and his gang. After about a year, my brother was granted bail and he went back to the same crime. Shokunbi told him that I am good, so he had no choice but to allow me join them.

“Unfortunately, he was arrested again at Ayobo when the people in the area alerted the police that he was back and still committing crime. Odudu was offended, so he made a list of all the people whom he suspected reported him to the police and we started robbing them one after the other.”

On how they operate, Nsima said that they normally broke into homes through the windows. “We normally remove the burglary proof through the window of the sitting room. Our targets in Ayobo are those with cars. Cars are the only valuables you can get in an average man’s house. When we enter the house, we will wait till it’s morning time, about 5am before we drive out like every normal person. While we are waiting, we will eat good food if there is any in the fridge. We will also tie up the people in the house and take all their phones.

“All the cars that we got were sold between N150, 000 and N300, 000 to one Umeh who is based in Anambra. It was my brother who normally calls him from prison anytime there is a product (stolen car) for sale.”

He also told the police that there are other two houses marked for robbery in Ayobo before police arrested them. “Odudu asked us to target a man who owns a big Toyota car popularly called muscle because it can be sold for as high as N400, 000. His lawyer needed that money in order to get him on bail. We were planning to operate when policemen arrested us.”

Another suspect, Abayomi James, alleged that there are two other persons in prison who normally suggested who and who to attack. “We are loyal to them because they are the ones who taught us robbery and have access to guns. Most importantly, we have to obey them so that if police arrest and send us to prison, they will protect us over there. I normally get my own instruction from Sunday and Tosin. Part of the money we get from selling cars is usually used to pay their lawyers.”

Another suspect, Omokaro told the police that he was the one responsible for buying all the guns used during all their robbery operations. “I am a private security man with Oando and they pay me N25, 000 a month. It is too small for a married man who is 48 years old. It is not even enough to pay for house rent. I have links with people that sell guns that was why I volunteered.”

Yet another suspect, Shokunbi, told the police that he is awaiting trial and was released on bail after spending 18 months in prison. “Once they release you from prison, you don’t need to go to court again. They will not even look for you because we were told by our lawyers that once they release you on bail, you are free. I have known Odudu for many years and we were arrested and released the same time. Unfortunately, he was arrested again by the police.”

One of the buyers of the stolen cars, Melvin admitted to the police that he knew the cars were stolen. “Odudu called me from the prison that his boys will contact me with some cars. I knew that they were stolen that is why I pay them N150, 000 per car. Whenever they call me I will travel to Lagos from Onitsha to pick them (stolen cars) up.”

Yet another buyer, Ahmed Waheed said that his own role is to buy the other valuables like Plasma TV, jewelries, phones and cloths. “I normally give them N10, 000 for 42inch Plasma TV.”

Seven Kinds Of Ladies Around A Broke Guy

Seven Kinds Of Ladies Around A Broke Guy

Being broke is an usual phenomenon for the average Nigerian young man. It's almost like a necessary pathway to greatness.

The only issue is different ladies treat you differently when you're broke.

There are several categories of ladies you are likely to encounter when you're broke.

1. Miss "Unconditional Love" Lady

This particular type of ladies are as rare as diamond. In fact some guys believe they're like dinosaurs; they've gone on extinct. This kinda lady is loyal to the core. "Patience" is her middle name.
She can go through with him from being a "broke corper" to the point of getting a good job, without knowing if his parents has got some wealth. This Love, I heard is declared MIA in Nigeria due to the recession. May she be found again.

2. Verbally Abusive Ones

This is especially if the guy did all to 'impress' her. Eventually, she found out his name was "Stark Broke". Her heart is dashed. She resorts to abusive words, in person and online. I blame the guy though. But the girl in POINT 1 wouldn't do that. She would see the motive behind his action. Maybe he loved her too much and overestimated the cost of reaching her. That's love too, you know.

3. "In And Out" Kinda Girls

(Watching His Prosperity Level Through A Microscope)

Go, she won't go. Stay, she won't stay. When she manages to depart for months, she's all busy checking up on his progress.
Her love isn't dependable. She's of no good, at the long run. She will leave you if you face a financial challenge in the future.
She'll call and after some minutes, "Are you still working in that place?" One leg in, One leg out.
The very moment you breakthrough, they'll be all over you. Monitoring Spirits

4. Just-Friends Kinda Ladies

She's just there for you. She doesn't look at your predicament and sometimes even shares her cash with you. Probably has a serious relationship going for her, but you're damn closer to her than her fiancé. She tells you everything. You sometimes feel like asking her out, but no guts. Too close. It'll be odd. Above all, you're not sure of what will be her reply.

5. Business-Like Ladies

It's a business world bro. My people say; "if a dog is looking at you with tongue out; it's either there's bone with or around you."- If a business-like kinda girl looks faithful and loyal around you, look well. Maybe she's calculated you're the first son to inherit your dad's property or you've got one wealthy uncle. Lol!
She might even buy you things sef. Don't be fooled. Those are baits. You'll pay double

6. "Highest Bidder Kinda Ladies"

When these ladies were girls, they thought they could be that faithful girlfriend but as they evolved, richer guys revolved, they began to dissolve. They returned to the old ways of their predecessors. It's alarming.
Even though she truly loves you, without money, you've got no chance. That's one reason you've got to make the money.

7. "Sucking Blood" Kinda Girls

This set of girls got no chill. They don't leave him. By looking at him, you can tell he barely eats well and you're asking him to borrow you #10,000 that you'll pay back next week. Who told you you'll pay back at all? Must you be lied to? This type wants to suck him dry. Every kobo, they want to take away from him.

Top Biggest Rumours About The Next Phantom Device

It is that time of the year when mobile phone makers release their flagship devices into the market and Africa number one mobile brand-TECNO is not left behind as there are rumours already flying around that the next Phantom device may be launched any time soon. Would it be 7 and/or 7+? Below are the top rumours about the next Phantom smartphone from TECNO Mobile.

FRONT PLACED FINGERPRINT SCANNER
While we are still being fascinated by the dual rear camera configuration, there are speculations that the next TECNO Flagship might have its fingerprint sensors placed at the front instead of the usual back placement. This means it will double as the home button as well as securing the device. Is TECNO Mobile going the Apple ways this year? Only time will tell.

EYE SCANNER AND VOICE UNLOCK APPLICATION

There are conflicting rumours that the latest TECNO Flagship will come with an eye scanner, and a voice unlocking application. While this might be a rumour, I do hope it is true, and if it is, it means TECNO is about to outdo themselves as far as security is concerned.

20MP + 16MP REAR CAMERA

The biggest rumour is that the new TECNO flagship device will come with a dual back camera of 20MP + 16MP configuration. If you could recall, the Phantom 6 has 13MP + 5MP dual back cameras, the 13MP being the main camera while the 5MP is the refocus camera.
The Phantom sub brand of TECNO Mobile is in a class of its own and is the most classy and premium device from the brand. We therefore expect the camera of the next Phantom to be great improved upon.
According to rumour mills, the upcoming Phantom device will host a more improved dual camera similar to what obtained on the Samsung Note 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The camera is expected to be built with materials provided by one of its competitor just like its predecessor. So, if the rumours flying around turn out to be true then, we might be expecting one of the best camera phones this year from TECNO Mobile.

IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY
That’s not all, we heard that the device will spot a super thin bezel-less AMOLED display having a 1440*2560 pixel resolution. Higher resolution means the colour will be more vibrant and display will be brighter as well.
One of many choices we make when buying a smartphone is the display type. If the leaked image above is anything to go by, then, we should start saving for this beautiful device.

While not so much is known about the other specs of the upcoming device this time around, it’s safe to assume that it will at least come with 4GB of RAM and a fast processor.

For those who aren’t in the know, the last Phantom device; TECNO phantom 6 was launched around October last year, so if TECNO honours a 12-month refresh cycle, the THE NEXT PHANTOM could be coming in about few weeks from now. What do you think about the rumoured specs?

A judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Binta Nyako has ordered all sureties to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, including the Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Enyinaya Abaribe, to appear before the court.

She asked that they explain why the IPOB leader failed to appear in court today.

When Justice Nyako earlier asked Mr. Ejiofor, counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, for the whereabouts of his client.

He replied that his client was willing and ready to appear before this court.

According to Mr. Ejiofor, since the invasion of his house by the Nigerian Army on the orders of the Federal Government, I don’t know where my client is.

“I cannot tell you if he is dead or alive, “What I am saying is that the soldiers, that went in his house will be in a position to tell you”

Justice Binta replied by asking for the sureties to appear before the court during the next hearing which is November 20, 2017.

Drama As Nnamdi Kanu's Co-accused Sparks At Security Operatives In Court.

There was a mild drama earlier today before the trial resumption of Nnamdi Kanu at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, was conspicuously absent for his trial. An IPOB member and co-accused, Benjamin Madubugwu, reacted angrily and sparked at security operatives after he was allegedly manhandled by them.

In a trending video footage, Benjamin Madubugwu, who was being brought to the court room, sparked after he was "pushed" by security operatives who were dragging him as he said he has rights like every other person.

The police operatives and prison officials who surrounded him - had to urge him to calm down before entering the court room.

Nnamdi Kanu, was last seen on September 2017 following a military operation in his hometown in Abia State..

We Have Invested $8.5b In Nigeria - World Bank

The World Bank Group says it has an investment portfolio of about 8.5 billion dollars scattered across states and regions in Nigeria to support inclusive economic development and youth empowerment.

Mrs Olufunke Olufon, the Senior Communications Officer, World Bank Nigeria, made this known in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

She stated that the investments were to assist the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory to reduce poverty and foster prosperity for all Nigerians.

She noted that the explanation followed concerns raised by Nigerians over the comment by World Bank President, Mr Jim Yong Kim that President Muhammadu Buhari asked the bank to shift its intervention focus to North Eastern states.

She said that the bank was also working with federal and state governments, as well as

development partners on speedy delivery of critical interventions to people of the North East who urgently needed assistance.

She added that “in 2015, the Government of Nigeria requested World Bank support to respond to the humanitarian and development crisis in the North East of Nigeria.

“To assess the needs of the nearly 15 million people in the region impacted by the crisis, the World Bank Group, the UN and European Union carried out a Recovery and Peace Building Assessment (RPBA).

“And based on the findings of the assessment, World Bank’s 775 million dollars support to the North East focuses on restoring basic education, health services, agricultural production, and livelihood improvement opportunities.”

Gareth Bale is getting trolled by Tottenham fans for his tweet after Real Madrid draw

Gareth Bale is getting trolled by Tottenham fans for his tweet after Real Madrid draw

It’s a great shame that Gareth Bale wasn’t fit enough to feature for Real Madrid against his former employers Tottenham on Tuesday evening.

The Welshman was injured during Madrid’s 3-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund last month and lost out in the race to be fit for this week’s huge Champions League clash at the Bernabeu.

Bale was subsequently forced to watch from the stands as the two sides played out an entertaining 1-1 draw.

A Raphael Varane own goal midway through the first half handed Mauricio Pochettino’s side a surprise 1-0 lead.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo - who else? - levelled the scores just before half-time with a composed penalty.

2019: Buhari Campaign Group Plans Mega Rally

2019: Buhari Campaign Group Plans Mega Rally

The Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organisation (BOCO) has revealed that plans were underway to hold a mega unity campaign across the country to promote peace and unity among all. The organisation’s national president, Isa Aminu Bayero, has said.

“We have decided to have an expanded campaign network to now include the person of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. We shall henceforth be known as Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organisation (BOCO),” he said.

Bayero said the national campaign for unity was conceived to address the aftermath of the agitation by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the quit notice by some northern youth groups against the Igbo.

Describing the agitation by IPOB and the quit notice as ‘misplaced priorities’, Bayero said the country belong to all and that no person or group has the right to send anybody away from any part of the country.

He commended President Buhari for the actions so far taken to arrest, “the boiling issue of corruption, insecurity, ethnic violence and herdsmen/farmers clashes.”

3 Important Things You Must Know Before Working For Any Nigerian Employer

3 Important Things You Must Know Before Working For Any Nigerian Employer

The Nigerian labour sector is such that most Nigerian employers can take advantage of people who work for them.

Many Nigerian employers can either sack, promote, fire or retire their staff on a whim.

This is because the labor laws in the country do not allow for any strict policies governing their behavior.

Most young graduates do not know a lot about these employers and get a rude awakening when they get treated anyhow.

Before you work for any Nigerian employer you should know these 5 things.

1. Do not work for free if you are an expert:

Many of these Nigerian employers use this statement "we are giving you a platform" to take advantage of job seekers, and either underpay or not pay them at all.

Before working for any Nigerian employer know that if your value is relevant, you deserve pay and do not allow desperation make you slave to a person or system because you are seeking a job.

2. Most of them will owe you salary:

This is nearly a norm in most one-man businesses in the country. Especially in organizations without a board of directors or a system in place, the salary of many employees lies at the mercy of their employers. Since many of them can get away with ill treating their staff, the salary of the staff can fluctuate either based on the economy or on their own personal desire to pay.
Before you work for any one man business owner, know that being owed salary will definitely come to play at some point.

3. They can fire you at any time:

Because there are no labor laws in the country to instill the fear of misbehaving in the Nigerian employers, the moment you fall from their good graces, you can be fired.
Many people have been known to lose their jobs because they has an affair with a girl their boss liked, or because their boss felt they are a threat.

Getting fired in the Nigerian job space is something of a norm and can happen any time. So prepare yourself even if you have a good working place now, and find multiple sources of income.
Anything can happen at any time.

27 Plateau Victims Given Mass Burial After Latest Attack By Suspected Herdsmen

27 Plateau Victims Given Mass Burial After Latest Attack By Suspected Herdsmen

President condemns incident, orders security forces to arrest situation

Seriki Adinoyi in Jos

It was another moment of grief Monday morning in Nkiedonwhro village, Bassa Local Government Area in Plateau State when at least 27 people were massacred in their sleep by gunmen suspected to be cattle herders.
The latest is about the third in the wave of attacks on the local government area since the state government imposed an indefinite dusk-to-dawn curfew on the local government council last Friday.

By Monday evening, the remains of the 27 victims of the attacks had been given a mass burial amidst wailing and outpouring of emotions in the village.
The incident followed a similar deadly attack in the same local government area on Saturday, leading to the deaths of six persons.

Confirming Monday’s incident, the National President of Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Mr. Sunday Abdu, indicted the soldiers attached to the Special Task Force (STF), saying the soldiers had gathered the villagers for the suspected herdsmen to kill.

He said the soldiers had gathered the victims in a primary school in the village to protect them from incessant attacks in the area, adding that while the soldiers occupied one classroom that they use as their operational base, the women and children occupied the next classroom.
“How then did the attackers come and kill the women and children without the soldiers knowing. It is either that the soldiers are conniving with the attackers to annihilate our people or they ran away and left our people to their fate.

“It is even more worrisome that the same local government is under a curfew imposed on it by the state government,” Abdu said.
Reacting to latest attack Monday, President Muhammadu Buhari said he received with deep sadness and regret, news of the killings which have been described as a reprisal perpetrated by suspected herdsmen.

Buhari, in a statement by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said: “This madness has gone too far.”
Shehu said the president instructed the military and the police to not only bring the violence to an instant end, but to draw up a plan to ensure that there are no further attacks and reprisals by one group against the other.

“President Buhari is devoted to the sanctity of Nigeria’s unity and he encourages Nigerians of all groups to learn to live together in peace and harmony,” Shehu said.
The president’s spokesman added that the president commiserated with the governor and people of Plateau State, and with those who lost their loved ones, friends and family.
“May God comfort them as only He can,” Buhari was quoted to have said.

Also reacting to the attack, the senator representing Plateau North in the National Assembly, Jonah David Jang, said he was sad to hear about the “incessant violent killings going on in Bassa allegedly perpetrated by herdsmen who have become the usual suspects in this kind of coordinated attacks in the state and others in the Middle-Belt”.

“The attack on Taagbe village, the failed attack on Nzoruvho village on Saturday, October 14th, 2017, and the most recent one on Nkiedonwhro in the early hours of yesterday (Monday), where more than 20 persons were alleged to have been killed, are condemnable no matter the justification.
“Notably, these attacks prove that the method of response adopted by the Plateau State governor is not working especially considering the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on Bassa Local Government Area on Friday.

“There is therefore the need for the state government to critically reconsider its strategy for the good of our people,” Jang, who is the immediate past governor of the state, said.

A former Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr. Yakubu Dati, added that the attack was condemnable, considering that the state governor had taken several measures, including the establishment of the Plateau Peace Agency and deployment of resources to assist the security agents to carry out their duties effectively.

“We can only call on the state government to reinvigorate the process that is already on ground,” he said.

Also commenting on the massacre, the member representing Jos North/Bassa federal constituency, Mr. Suleiman Kwande, called on the federal government to investigate the killings in the primary school while under the watch of the security operatives.

Kwande described the attack as unfortunate, particularly now that peace has returned to the state after decades of violence.

“The new spate of killings of innocent people in Bassa Local Government Area in recent times is very unfortunate and disheartening. The natives of the locality in the last few weeks have suffered unprovoked attacks that resulted in the killing of innocent people.

“I call on the federal government to set up a committee to investigate the fresh killings of innocent persons, including children, women, men and the aged in a primary school where they were taking refuge,” he said.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tyopev Terna, said he could not comment on the attack, as he had not been briefed by his Divisional Police Officer in Bassa.

But the Director General of Plateau Peace Agency, Mr. Joseph Lengman, said the state government was slated to hold a security meeting Monday and would make its stance known after the meeting.

When contacted, the military Special Task Force (STF), codenamed Operation Safe Haven, said it would investigate the involvement of soldiers on duty at the Nkiedonwhro when the villagers were attacked.

The commander of the task force, Major General Anthony Atolagbe, who revealed this when he went for on-the-spot assessment of the school, said the soldiers were sent to the headquarters of the task force for proper investigation on how the attack took place in the village under their watch, especially since a curfew was imposed on the village and there was supposed to be restriction on movement.

Meanwhile, after the mass burial for the victims, the villagers called on the state government to vacate the curfew, as it was needless and had failed to serve its purpose.

They also demanded to know how the attackers found their way from the mountains to the village when there was a curfew and movement restriction.

THISDAY gathered that Governor Simon Lalong is slated to visit the area Tuesday to commiserate with the people.

I Am Leaving Nigeria As A Hero'‚ Jacob Zuma Gushes After Massive Statue Of Him

I Am Leaving Nigeria As A Hero'‚ Jacob Zuma Gushes After Massive Statue Of Him

South Africa President Jacob Zuma has said he was at a loss for words after a giant statue of him was unveiled in Imo state.

You recall, Nigerians were flabbergasted when everyone woke up last Saturday to a giant statue of Jacob Zuma standing tall in Owerri, Imo state.

Rochas Okorocha‚ billionaire‚ education philanthropist and governor of the Imo State‚ had unveiled the bronze statue, named a street after Zuma, conferred him with a chieftaincy title and then the highest Merit Award in Imo state during his two-day visit to Nigeria which concluded on Sunday.

According to the Imo state government, Zuma's visit to Nigeria and to the state was to “strengthen socio-economic relations and deepen cooperation in education.”

Speaking about his visit, Zuma said he was at a loss for words:

“I walked in here‚ as I say‚ as an ordinary freedom fighter. I’m leaving Nigeria‚ through the state of Imo‚ as a hero. What a decoration.”

The giant statue of Jacob Zuma in Owerri, Imo state had sparked outrage among Nigerians who, according to Okechukwu Nwanguma‚ national coordinator of the civil society Network On Police Reform in Nigeria (NOPRIN)‚ were not informed about the statue.

“We just woke up to the news of the unveiling of the statue.”

Zuma's two-day visit to Imo state happened just as South Africa's Supreme Court ruled that he should face corruption charges.

Local media reported that the cost of the humongous statue Rochas erected for Jacob Zuma was around 520million Naira -- equivalent to $1.4 million.

Afe Babalola University Produces 83 First Class Graduates At 5th Convocation

Afe Babalola University Produces 83 First Class Graduates At 5th Convocation

Varsity produces 83 First-Class graduates at fifth convocation

The Afe Babalola University in Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Ekiti State capital, will, on Friday, inaugurate a 400-bed teaching hospital as part of activities marking its fifth convocation.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Michael Ajisafe, who addressed reporters yesterday to herald the Convocation Week, said 869 students will graduate with Bachelor’s degree and 42 with postgraduate degrees.

He said 83 students will graduate with First-Class Honours; 386 with Second-Class Upper; 289, Second-Class Lower and 110, Third-Class.

The ABUAD acting vice chancellor said a former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Peter Okebukola, will deliver the convocation lecture, titled: The Place and Continued Relevance of Private Universities.

According to him, Okebukola and Dr. Douglas Jackson, president of Project CURE, an American humanitarian organisation, will receive honorary doctorate degrees.

Ajisafe said ABUAD Teaching Hospital is equipped with world-class facilities to stop medical tourism abroad among Nigerians and to give the best training for students.

The vice chancellor said the university, also yesterday, started free health services, including surgery for 2,000 people with various ailments, as part of its corporate social responsibilities (CSR).

He added that the free medical mission, which ends on Friday, will be carried out by health experts from Nigeria, Asia and Europe on the premises of the teaching hospital complex.

Ajisafe said: “The experts will treat any patient free and they will perform surgery, if it is required on any patient. This is on the bill of ABUAD and it is going to be on first-come, first-served basis.”

He justified the high First-Class graduates produced by the university, saying it confirmed the quality education offered by the university, which he said was a function of uninterrupted power supply and full-residential policy for students adopted by the Founder, Chief Afe Babalola.

“Since we began, ABUAD has proved to be a trail-blazer. In order to add international flavour to the nation’s healthcare delivery, the 400-bed hospital built on 60 hectares of land has entered into partnership with some reputable players in the global health industry, such as Abbot Laboratories, Aster Hospital, Dubai, Project CURE, U. S. A.

“Others include Narula foundation, India, JNC international, Trigenesis, India, Protech Gas, Adler of England, College of Pharmacy, Howard University in the U.S. and Bridge of Life, USA as well as Care4you Association in Denmark”, he explained.

Ajisafe noted that the university has received half of the funds promised by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to fast-track development in the institution.

Ajisafe argued that the degrees being awarded by ABUAD can compete with those from Howard and Harvard universities, saying “certificates being offered here are scrutinised by external bodies and institutions within and outside the country…”

The vice chancellor promised that the institution will continue to strive hard until it realises the dream of becoming one of the 100 best universities globally.

Ipob: Army To Begin Deradicalisation Of Members

Ipob: Army To Begin Deradicalisation Of Members

Barely 24 hours after the army announced the end of its “Operation Python Dance 2 (Egwu Eke Abuo)” and withdrawal of its personnel from the South East, military authorities said they would commence deradicalisation programme for members of the recently proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to discourage secessionist narratives.

Director, Nigerian Army Civil-Military Affairs, Brigadier Gen. Solomon Kumapaye, who disclosed this in Abuja, yesterday, during a visit to the Director General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Garba Abari, said the deradicalisation and counter-narrative initiative of the Nigerian Army is yielding much result in the North-East. He said many repentant insurgents had surrendered for deradicalisation and re-integration into society.

While soliciting for NOA’s active involvement in the planned programme, Brig. Gen. Kumapaye explained that the directorate was created to drive the non-kinetic aspects of warfare and ensure the rights of civilians are respected in military operations.

To actualise the foregoing, he said the army has secured the toll-free Short Code: 193 with which the public can now reach it, using any mobile network. He promised prompt response on any issue, from complaints on the conduct of its personnel to emergency concerns.

In his remarks, the NOA’s DG assured that his agency will collaborate actively with the army to de-radicalise repentant insurgents in the North East and implement counter-narratives to discourage insurgency.

He said the NOA would provide the sensitisation and counter-narrative materials, especially in Borno and Gombe, through Operation Lafiya Dole and Safe Corridor of the army.

Abari, however, called for a two-pronged approach to deradicalisation and emphasised inputs from both the armed forces and the traditional and religious leaders as well.

He further applauded the army for establishing a civil rights desk, noting that Nigerian military is living up to expectations and transiting from existing stereotypes, in line with international best practices.

Nigerians Are Wondering Why Jacob Zuma Now Has A Statue In Their Country

South African President Jacob Zuma visited Nigeria's Imo state on Friday and had a giant bronze statue unveiled in his honor, a decision that has caused outrage in some parts of the country.

The two-day visit happened just as South Africa's Supreme Court ruled that President Zuma should face corruption charges.

Zuma visited Governor Rochas Okorocha in Owerri in a surprise visit that was only announced the same day by the South Africa presidency.

As well as the statue, Zuma was given a chiefaincy title and had a road named after him.

Local media reported that the cost of the statue was around 520million Naira -- equivalent to $1.4 million.

Okorocha also conferred on Zuma the Imo Merit Award, the highest award the state gives to distinguished individuals.

As he unveiled the statue, Okorocha said: "We have decided to honor you for your love for education, though you were deprived in your early days in life but you are working to make sure that every poor child went to school.

"Your love for education to us is the connection between you and government and the people of Imo State."

Okorocha and President Zuma also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will provide free education for poor children on the continent, according to local media reports.
Nigerians have weighed in on Twitter expressing their opinions on the statue of Zuma.
