Tension in Saraki and Atiku's camp as Tambuwal reveals PDP preference for consensus candidate

According to the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, the power brokers within the PDP are looking to convince the party’s presidential aspirants to adopt one candidate to challenge President Buhari of the APC in next year’s presidential elections.

Earlier, it was revealed that the party plan to have a meeting with all 13 aspirants at a secret location in Abuja on Thursday, the aim of the meeting was to screen the candidate and also to convince them to choose one amongst them to fly the party’s flag in 2019.

The party it is said is making this move so as to present a united front and eliminate any form of discord that may arise from the rigorous process of primaries.

Now, Tambuwal, himself a presidential candidate of the party has confirmed that party position which may not favour the likes of Saraki and Atiku who believe they have the capacity to convince the delegates to do their bidding.

“I deem it appropriate to start the visit with Kebbi State being my home as Sokoto and Zamfara.

“Our party is still consulting the stakeholders on who to present to contest for the presidential position. If the consultation fails, we will do the primary and I will accept the outcome and support whoever emerges as our candidate.

“I had left PDP for APC in view of the situation we found ourselves under PDP in the last government and joined APC for our conviction and presumption that the party would do the expected,” Tambuwal said.
