Each member of the Super Eagles team that played in Nigeria’s friendly win over Liberia on Tuesday evening were given $2,000, one of the players has confirmed.
The invitational friendly match was held in honour of the Liberian President and 1995 Ballon D’Or winner, George Weah, and to retire his No. 14 jersey which he wore during his playing days.
“We were paid $2,000 each by the President of Liberia,” one Super Eagles player confirmed.
President Weah has expressed his excitement about the friendly, mostly because Nigeria fielded a strong side.
In his playing days, Weah played as a striker for some of Europe’s best teams including PSG, Monaco, AC Milan, Manchester City and Chelsea
