Ozil chalked up his first Premier League goal since December as he helped Gunners to their third straight win

MESUT OZIL celebrated his 200th Arsenal appearance by hitting the winning goal against Newcastle - then admitted he didn't know he had reached the milestone.

Ozil brought up the double century in style with the crucial second goal as the Gunners saw off Rafa Benitez's side 2-1 on Tyneside.

But the 29-year-old had no idea it was such a landmark game in his Arsenal career.

Asked about it he said: "Really, 200? I'm happy but most important we take the three points.

"Congratulations to the whole team, we played well. Newcastle were good, aggressive. We showed our passion and took the points."

Ozil's goal after Granit Xhaka's opener was the first time he has scored in the Premier League since December.

The win was the third on the bounce for the Gunners after the club had lost their opening two matches of the campaign.

It has seen them climb up into the top eight level on points with North London rivals Tottenham - and now just three away from a place in the top four.

Unai Emery is gradually making changes at the club, and Ozil says the players love working for the man who has delivered success in Spain and France before.
