The Senate on Thursday morning had to adjourn its sitting after fire broke out in a section of the National Assembly building.
It was gathered that the conflagration broke out around 11am at a technical room, which is located in the basement of the national assembly where banks and a mosque are located.
It was also learnt that the smoke enveloped the chamber, forcing senators to leave. It started while the lawmakers were coming into the chamber in preparation for the day’s sitting.
The cause of the fire is yet to be known while efforts were made to put it out.
As at the time of filing the report no one was hurt in the incident.
As a result of this, plenary was adjourned to next week.
Details later…
