The Police Command in Abuja has detained a 29-year-old car wash
attendant whose name is Mohammed Chado, for selling a year 2000 model of
Toyota Camry that a client gave him to wash.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT, Sadiq Bello who paraded the suspect before newsmen, said the suspect works at a car wash outlet in Apo, Abuja, took the car and sold it for N450,000, which he used to marry his wife.
“I sold the car for N450,000 and spent N300,000 on the wedding; I gave the money to my family to buy the needed wedding items, then I spent the balance on feeding myself for one year” he told a Punch correspondent.
A few months ago, it was also reported that Afeez Ayo, a car wash attendant in Abuja, was detained by the police for stealing a customer’s 2008 Toyota Highlander SUV and took it to Lagos on a fun ride.
Ayo, who is a holder of an Ordinary National Diploma, was said to have gotten a new number plate of the vehicle and driven it to Ibadan from where he took four passengers en route to Lagos.
The suspect was seen at Agodi Junction, Ibadan on his way from Lagos by detectives from Apo police division, Abuja in collaboration with the Oyo State Police Command.
The Federal Capital Territory police spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah, explained that the owner of the SUV, Mrs. Adenike Sani, had left the car with Ayo at a car wash at the Apo Resettlement Centre, Abuja only for the attendant to disappear with the vehicle along with a Tecno phone belonging to a lady.
On getting the report of the theft, detectives were said to have tracked the vehicle to Oyo State where it was recovered and the suspect apprehended. Ayo on his own part disclosed that he stole the SUV to get back at the management of the car wash facility, for planning to relieve him of his job.
